Volunteer Vacations – How To Make A Difference On Vacation

Sheer Magic Of Sikkim, Nepal, Bhutan, Kerala……& Volunteerism.
(with a bit of humility for the less fortunate)
Greetings – Thank you for taking time to read this blog. We are Friends of Orphanages in Asia. The magic and magnificent of Sikkim, Nepal, Bhutan, Kerala, Laos, Cambodia………… have often been touted in travel magazines, forums, news media and the like. And all of that are true. However, there is a section of these beautiful countries that has often been overlooked – that is the destitute, especially the orphans. Hi, I am See Wai, a free lance tour organizer and an avid traveler. I have been to many of these places on several occasions and witness the predicament of the poor and the homeless amidst the sheer beauty and magnificent scenery that each country has to offer. Hence, I took it upon myself to do some voluntary work to help the needy. During the course of my visits, I have discovered many cost saving methods to enjoy our holidays and at the same time do some charitable work. Therefore, we have been putting together regular trips to places like Nepal, Sikkim and others, using local company approved by and accredited to their respective Tourism Boards. In this way, we by-pass all middleman, to bring cost down. Significantly, it would also be an opportunity to appreciate and to do some humanitarian work for the less fortunate as this can be incorporated into the itinerary, but not at the expense of what is going to be an wonderful and meaningful holiday too.

Volunteer Vacations – How To Make A Difference On Vacation

Volunteer travel, volunteer vacations, voluntourism, or vacanteerism is travel which includes volunteering for a charitable cause. In recent years, “bite-sized” volunteer vacations have grown in popularity. Volunteer vacation participants are diverse but typically share a desire to “do something good” while also experiencing new places and challenges in locales they might not otherwise visit. Ours is primarily a short visit to a predetermined orphanage of that country to distribute much needed items for orphans’ daily subsistence.

Volunteer travel is a unique form of travel that allows normal people to make an exceptional difference to the underpriveleged in a safe, responsible and supported way. Volunteers can enjoy an exciting travel adventure abroad while assisting vitally important community projects. You’ll engage with a local community in a unique way and experience part of another country not easily accessible to tourists

The great thing about our volunteer travel projects is that a lot of our projects don’t require specific skills, nor do they discriminate by age or sex which means people from different walks of life can take part in contributing to worthwhile and meaningful travel.

Volunteer Travel is for anyone who wants to do something positive with their travel experience. Meet new people. Have fun. Experience a new culture. Give something back to society. Gain unique experiences and challenge oneselves. As long as you go with an open mind and willingness to get involve, your efforts will be greatly appreciated. … however small!

Isn’t it better to give money? Money is rarely the answer to complicated development issues; if it was, the poverty problems in the world would be getting better! Short-term aid relief can cause aid-reliance and financial instability and the corruption seen in many developing countries means the guarantee of your money going to the heart of the cause is massively reduced. From our experience (and by learning from our mistakes) regular visits to destitute institutions provide benefits far greater than a short-term financial aid relief.

Volunteer vacations will give you a renewed sense of energy. You can gain enriching experiences, memories, and friendships that last a lifetime. An amazing sense of camaraderie and ‘family’ often grows. We need volunteers willing to lend a helping hand and make a difference. So join us! Best Season to visit: March to mid June, September to December

Climatic factors are very important in deciding when to visit Nepal. October-November, the start of the dry season, is in many ways the best time of year: the weather is balmy, the air is clean, visibility is perfect, and the country is lush following the monsoon. February-April, the tail end of the dry season is the second-best period: visibility is not so good because of dust, but the weather is warm and many of Nepal’s wonderful wild flowers are in bloom. In December and January the climate and visibility are good but it can be chilly: trekkers need to be well prepared for snow. The monsoon from mid-June to September obscures the mountains in cloud and turns trails and roads to mud.

Kerala Tours – Kerala & South India Experience

Kerala Tours – Kerala & South India Experience

Time to Visit Kerala
Kerala, blessed with great natural beauty and diverse ecology, has been bestowed with honors like one of the “ten paradises of the world” and “50 places of a lifetime” by the National Geographic Traveler Magazine. Whether it’s the serene backwaters or the splendid hill stations, the stunning beaches or the rich cultural aspects, there is so much to explore in Kerala. Due to its close proximity to the sea, the climate of Kerala is neither too hot nor too cold. This has made Kerala an all-season destination.

Climate – The Coolest Stuff of Kerala
The land of Kerala (coconut trees) is as different from the rest of India. It is this favourable geography which makes Kerala matchless. The summers are not potent enough to precipitate frustration among the masses. Then there is winter, which calls for hundreds of migratory guests from as far as Siberia to roost in its green forests. In short, it is the climate that along with its attractions, have lured its guests from time immemorial and is still doing so with satisfactory results.

Landscape – Go Green With Kerala
Nowhere in India you might find a place which is so much much influenced with its topography, a land whose fortune is decided by the lush green hillls that border its periphery and by the rhapsodic streams that play on the bossom of God’s own country. The landscape of Kerala comprises the mountains that are fractured by the 15 km wide Palghat Gap, which run like a lifeline on the palm of Kerala. You can spend your holidays by scaling the highest peak Annamalai (2775 m), located in Devikulam district. Beside there are several other mist-clad hill stations and places of pilgrimage deep inside the wilderness that make for a perfect tourist vacation.

The Roaring Beaches
Kerala is emphatically crowded with palm trees, which swing to the sweep the sea aroma even before it reaches the lungs of the inhabitants. A sliver of sparkling white sand dips into the clear, sapphire sea, where schools of fish breathe through the floating plankton, otters chase their hunt, and dolphins jump again to disappear into the heart of the abyss. Serene, secluded and spellbinding, some of them are among the best in the world.

On A High Above The Hills
Kerala houses a number of stress-relieving hill stations. Ranging from the cool plantations of tea and spices to the dense wilderness, they afford a choice of ambience to all its visitors! The mist-clad peaks of this unexplored, and hence incredibly beautiful state, provide an ideal environment for the cultivation of cardamom, cinnamon, tea, coffee, rubber and pepper. Among the highlands, Munnar definitely stands apart. With its sprawling tea plantations, scenic towns, solitary lanes and various holiday pleasures, Munnar is a favoured tourist destination on the hill tops.

Holiday In Green
So here is Kerala, truly God’s own country. The whole landscape invites you, some have words, some with gestures. Hear the calls of the roaring waves. See the coconut trees swaying their palms as a gesture of welcome. Feel the shimmering backwaters retracing their way back before blending with the sea. All are waiting. So plan your next holidays in Kerala, pack your bags and get going to enjoy a wonderful vacation. The general information on the coastal land of Kerala can be gathered on your Kerala tours.

Sikkim & Darjeeling Tours – Explore Sikkim In 10 Days – Scenic Tour Of Sikkim

The Sheer Magic Of Darjeeling and Sikkim.

“Sikkim is the most beautiful place in the world and surprisingly it is clean and safe too. The charms of the State are the limitless romantic mists, mountains, colourful flowers and butterflies. With its unique culture and natural landscape, Sikkim is a picture of perfection and pristine purity. Nestled in the Himalayas and endowed with exceptional natural resources, Sikkim offers a spectacular scene with every turn of the road.

Dominating both legend and landscape of Sikkim is the mighty Khangchendzonga. Known to outside world as Kanchenjunga, it is the third highest peak in the world. But to the Sikkimese it is much more than a mountain. Khangchendzonga is the Guardian deity, a country God whose benign watchfulness ensures peace and prosperity for the land.

Sikkim is the least populous state in India, and the only Indian state with an ethnic Nepalese majority. The other main ethnic groups are the Bhutias, Lepchas and the Limbu.

Sikkim locals are known for their hospitality, with a slight bashfulness that is endearing. To fully embrace the Sikkim culture, visitors are provided with clean, comfortable lodgings and are privy to an array of activities ranging from participation in cultural rituals to helping out on the farm.

Aside from local village activities, visitors to Sikkim are also spoilt for choice when it comes to the places of interest available to them. History buffs can embark on the famous Buddhist Circuit, which takes them to the numerous ancient Buddhist monasteries dotting the area. Legend has it that visitors to these sacred lands are granted immortality, as Hell’s gates will be closed to them.

For nature lovers, the abundance of fauna and flora of Sikkim is truly a delight for the senses. Because Sikkim is located on geographically uneven terrain, it has varying altitudes, which contributes to its diverse plant species. A simple half-day trek in scenic jungle trail will enable the visitor to get acquainted with a wide variety of birds and animals in their natural habitat.

Getting around Sikkim is an adventure in itself. Because of its rocky terrain, four-wheel drives are the most popular mode of transport. With the nearest airport (Bagdogra Airport) a six-hour jeep ride away, one can be guaranteed a certain air of exclusivity as well as a romantic sense of seclusion when residing in Sikkim.

The best time to visit this idyllic community and soak up its rich culture and history will be between March and early May. This is when sunshine is in abundance and monsoon rains will not obscure the beautiful peaks surrounding Sikkim. However, with a maximum summer temperature of 20°C, it is still cool enough to explore and enjoy the natural environment.

Nothing can describe Sikkim better than seeing it for yourself. Best of all, it need not be pricey if we go directly to the source rather than buying packages from local tour companies. That is where I hope to fulfill your dreams of seeing magnificent Sikkim without burning a hole in your pocket. Significantly, it would also be an opportunity to do some humanitarian work (volunteer vacation – https://exploresikkim.wordpress.com/2012/01/22/volunteer-vacations-how-to-make-a-difference-on-vacation/ ) in Sikkim for the less fortunate as well.
